Patri McLaughlin, Jaws, Maui, 16th January, 2021: “Although we get quite a few days kiting Jaws in the winter, really big days only happen once every few years and they don’t often come with wind. The forecast for the 16th was looking huge, so the entire surfing world headed out and it was nuking. There were 40 jet skis, 15 boats, two helicopters, and even a plane circling around up high. There were some 60 foot sets coming through, certainly some of the biggest waves I’ve ever kited and it ended up being one of the best big windy days I’ve ever seen. It felt good to showcase what a kiter can do in big waves in front of the entire surfing world.” Photo: Frankie Bees
